I’m happy to share something long overdue. I’ve rebuilt my website, and I invite you to check it out.
It’s a big step up from the old one, and far easier to navigate.
Most importantly, there’s now an Available Work page — the paintings I have for sale, with clear pricing, in one place.
Before I went full-time as a painter in 2012, I sat for ten years, eight hours a day in a cubicle, removing computer viruses, staring at HTML code, and doing multimedia and instructional design for university professors teaching grad courses online.
The work paid most of the bills. It also left me increasingly discontent, until I made the full 180 — leaving the cubicle to paint full-time.
I used to think those years in IT and Educational Technology were wasted — that I had nothing to show for the time.
I’ve come to see I was wrong. The web design, the LMS management, the video editing, the eLearning development— all of it laid a foundation. It built my new website. It lets me create content for myself and my own business.
There is something powerful in that. The skills I once used to build what other people wanted, I now use to manifest what I want.
Which brings me to a song and music video I’ve made.
The song is called Tsodilo Awakening, after a painting I made in 2015. I was researching the Tsodilo Hills at the time— a place that is world-renowned as ancient, mysterious, and spiritually charged. The mountains of the gods. I dreamed for years of going. I still do.
I have lived a four-hour drive from the hills for the past decade and have never gone. The relatively short distance has only deepened the yearning.
Maybe I’ve built the place up so much in my head that the visit will disappoint me. I doubt it, though.
With some modern technology, I made the song and animated dozens of my paintings — nearly fifteen years of work — into the backdrop of the video.
I wrote it as a reggae love song to the hills and an homage to the painting sold in 2016. Then I listened closely to the lyrics and heard everything I have been speaking in the language of paint all along.
The ancient power in the land, the spiral star motifs as portals to new ways of knowing, the polarities of male and female, light and dark, the divine feminine in our mother earth — it is all there in the song and in the paintings.
In the end it became a love letter — to myself, and to the world. A reminder that we have done far more than we think, and that we should keep going. Keep bringing light and beauty into the world. It needs it.
